Cleethorpes To Get New Shipping Container Watersports Centre
An ambitious new watersports centre that will include a shop, cafe, and restaurant has been proposed for Cleethorpes seafront.
Insider Media reports that Ebb & Flo, a paddleboard and watersports lifestyle brand, has submitted a planning application to North East Lincolnshire Council for a contemporary three-storey building that overlooks the seafront.
The innovative modular design, using shipping containers with a glass front that give coastal views, looks to the future, as it will be able to be packed up and taken elsewhere when sea levels rise, which the Environment Agency predict will be found 1.5 metres over the next 100 years.
Ebb & Flo’s owners, Toni and Vince Weavers explained that they are wanting to expand their waterfront business so they can provide a wider range of watersports activities, as well as a cafe and restaurant for tourists and visitors, as well a creating a headquarters for their business.
Toni said: "We are happy to have submitted plans to NELC, sharing our vision for the direction of EBB&FLO and we are excited to see where the future takes us."
The centre will be used for training in paddle boarding and kayaking. The scheme also includes changing facilities and a classroom, as well as a top floor flat.
The submitted plans detailed the plans to be able to relocate the development when sea levels rise and added: “The opportunity to see development on the North Promenade should be encouraged and the growing success of EBB & FLO is testament to the commitment of its owners Toni and Vince.
“This building will create a vibrant and exciting mixed-use development that combines EBB & FLO’s water sports activities, cafe, first-floor flexible venue and lettable units for rent to complementary businesses.”
The application with North East Lincolnshire Council is in the public consultation phase and will be determined in the coming weeks.
